Broken Gagarin
It is so interesting that this sculpture of young Yuri Gagarin came to you broken in pieces: the piece cryptically transfigured into a more honest symbol of his life. Yuri Gagarin was not just a hero but a tragic hero, as just seven years after his momentous flight in space, he died tragically in a jet crash during flight training.
My proposal for this piece is to recognize Gagarin’s tragic heroism by placing the pieces of the sculpture in a box frame, covering the broken pieces in (non-destructive and removable) glitter and surrounding it with artificial flowers.
